Refurbished crane customised and modernised

HP Cranes Consulting and Engineering recently undertook another exciting project to deliver an overhead crane to the client’s specification. The brief was to refurbish, customise, and modernise the client’s crane, and HP Cranes Consulting and Engineering delivered the final product in just three weeks.
Due to building renovations, the client needed their existing crane to be reconfigured to a two 5-ton wire rope hoist system.
As a returning client, they immediately contacted and entrusted HP Cranes Consulting and Engineering with the project. “The client understands our level of expertise and our quality precision that goes into each project,” says Donavon Spamers, Works Director at HP Cranes Consulting and Engineering.
Instead of investing in a brand-new crane, the client opted for a refurbishment, which allowed for a highly customised solution that is tailored to their specific requirements. The customisation involved reducing the crane’s span by two metres to fit in with the client’s new building renovations. The crane now operates with a span of 17m and a lifting height of 6m, which suits the client’s facility and lifting requirements.
The client also required the crane to be modernised. Therefore, the electrical panels were fully upgraded with the latest technology, incorporating variable speed drives for smoother, more controlled operation, and a remote-control system. These enhancements help to improve the client’s efficiency and operator comfort in the working area.
Once the refurbishment was complete, it was time to prepare the crane for the long journey back to the Cape Province. As usual, the process to load the newly refurbished crane onto the abnormal delivery vehicle was handled with meticulous care.
“It is extremely important for us to ensure that the crane is loaded safely and securely for its long journey ahead. Loading a crane of this size is no small feat, and it can take a couple of hours as each component is properly secured. This is not a step that is rushed. Our team understands that the care taken during loading is a direct reflection of our standards throughout every project that we undertake,” says Spamers.
