Bringing Greater Transparency To Africa’s Crane Market

Dubai-based MYCRANE is actively engaging with new customers throughout Africa to foster greater transparency, verified equipment and more efficient procurement processes within the lifting industry.

The platform was launched five years ago by a circle of crane specialists to address long-standing inefficiencies in the rental sector, where procurement processes were fragmented and difficult, while international used crane sales were similarly plagued by fraudulent documentation. The vision of the founders was to unite the lifting community through transparency and efficiency, allowing contractors to use MYCRANE to submit requirements online and receive verified quotations within a single day.
Speaking with Lifting Africa at the recent South Africa Infrastructure Expo in Johannesburg, MYCRANE Head of Sales and Marketing, Sudheesh Mohan, explained that while the company’s rental platform functions on a model similar to ride-hailing services, the business is currently placing particular emphasis on expanding its crane trading activities across Africa, including all-terrain, rough-terrain, crawler and tower cranes.
MYCRANE says its approach has reduced procurement timelines from a month to a day in some cases, while ensuring that all cranes listed are properly certified and documented. MYCRANE’s Marketplace is also unique in being dedicated solely to cranes unlike other platforms that mix categories of equipment.
“We are expanding rapidly across the globe, and most recently into Africa. While our rental services are still being established in the region, we are already actively promoting MYCRANE Trading, including used crane sales, technical support and related services. With our service, potential buyers can be assured that every crane listed has undergone a rigorous inspection process before being offered for sale. Documentation is verified with manufacturers, experienced inspectors perform technical checks and suppliers are vetted for credibility.

“Transparency and verification are central to our approach. Right now, our yard in Dubai is holding at least 20 cranes that are suitable for African customers that have been sourced from reputable suppliers in Europe and Asia, with more being added every day on a regular basis,” says Mohan.
According to him the company has already achieved significant trading volumes worth several million dollars over the past year and is growing rapidly. In terms of rentals the company claims access to one of the largest consolidated inventories globally.
MYCRANE has launched a mobile app for iOS and Android that notifies, communicates and offers engineering support where users can load their lifting requirements to obtain crane recommendations.
Mohan adds that, in the near future, South Africa is expected to become MYCRANE’s strategic hub for Southern Africa, while an East African facility is planned to support growing regional demand and improve equipment accessibility across the continent.
With a database of approximately 40,000 African construction and crane industry contacts receiving the company’s weekly bulletins of stock availability, he says that feedback from African contractors has been positive.
There is also strong growing interest by European suppliers who are interested in reaching new customers in the Middle East and African markets. The experienced team from MYCRANE are on hand to facilitate such sales and rentals in future where they will provide easy linkups between buyers, sellers and rentals with strong technical expertise.
“We are confident that greater transparency, verification and easier access to information can help simplify crane procurement across Africa.
Our aim is to connect buyers, sellers and rental providers more efficiently while ensuring customers have access to properly certified cranes backed by technical expertise and trusted documentation,” concludes Mohan.
