Piet Otto: A Legacy Of Knowledge, Safety And Mentorship
Born and educated in Graaff Reinet in the Karoo. After completing matric, and military service, Piet did articles for 4 years and studied part time at University of Port Elizabeth for a law diploma. He was also a Captain in the SADF serving with his Infantry Regiment Groot Karoo.
Joined Mc Kinnon Chain in 1996 in Port Elizabeth as a technical representative and when leaving in 1999, was Marketing Director and part owner of Mc Kinnon Chain.
Responsibilities included marketing in all local and export areas, including Sub Sahara Africa. Also responsible for all training of sales and distribution network and involved in special projects, manufacturing, inspections as well as testing of lifting equipment.
Piet left Mc Kinnon Chain in 1999 and established Phakamisa Safety Consultants, a specialist lifting equipment service provider that conducts the following training, consulting and auditing services.

Piet Otto has been actively involved in the lifting equipment industry for over 56 years and is:

Ex Council member of LEEASA
SABS - TC 1020 Committee member for Lifting Equipment
A lifting equipment mentor, and advisor to various major users and suppliers of lifting equipment in mining, manufacturing, industrial and other sectors.
Piet resides in Uvongo KZN, but operates all over Southern Africa. He enjoys gym, walking, golf as well as travelling and riding Harley Davidson motor cycles with his friends for the last 30 years.
