Precision In A Confined Space: Marlboro Crane Hire’s SANY SCC7500 In Mozambique
Working in partnership with Crane & Hoist, Marlboro Crane Hire is undertaking a demanding HRSG module lifting operation where restricted site space makes precision and careful planning essential.

Heavy lifting is not determined by load weight alone. In some operations, the greatest challenge lies in the space available to position the crane, manage the lifting arrangement and manoeuvre a substantial load into its required position. In Mozambique, Marlboro Crane Hire is working in partnership with Crane & Hoist on the installation of heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) modules for an industrial power-generation project.
At the centre of the ongoing operation is a 2013 SANY SCC7500 crawler crane, lifting modules weighing as much as 280 tonnes. With limited space available for the lifting operation, the project demands careful consideration of crane positioning, working radius, lifting configuration and the surrounding site constraints. These factors make planning and coordination particularly important, with the lifting solution needing to accommodate the physical limitations of the work area as well as the requirements of the load.
A lift where space matters
Restricted working areas can introduce significant challenges to heavy-lifting operations.
Available space influences where a crane can be positioned, the configuration it can operate in and how the load can be moved into its final position. On this project the modules, of different lengths and weights, are being lifted to a radius of as much as 22 metres. Within a constrained site environment, these parameters must be considered alongside the module dimensions, rigging arrangement, crane configuration and ground conditions.
Successful execution relies on detailed lift planning and an engineered approach that accounts for the specific conditions on site. Crane positioning, load movement and the available working envelope must all be considered to ensure the operation can be carried out safely and precisely.
The SANY SCC7500: Capability and control
Marlboro Crane Hire’s 2013 SANY SCC7500 crawler crane is a 750-tonne-class machine designed for demanding heavy-lifting applications. Crawler cranes in this category offer configurable lattice-boom systems and tracked undercarriages for use on suitably prepared working platforms. Their capabilities make them valuable assets on major industrial projects, where substantial loads must be lifted and positioned according to specific installation requirements. However, a crane’s rated capacity is only one element of a successful lifting operation.
The permitted load depends on the crane’s actual configuration, working radius, boom arrangement, rigging and site conditions.
In a restricted working area, these considerations become especially important when determining the appropriate lifting solution. The SCC7500’s involvement in Mozambique demonstrates the role of specialist equipment in addressing demanding lifting requirements, where the available space can be just as significant a consideration as the weight of the load.
Partnership and planning
The collaboration between Marlboro Crane Hire and Crane & Hoist highlights the importance of combining specialised lifting equipment with careful planning and practical expertise to meet the requirements of a challenging industrial installation.
Precision makes the difference
As work continues in Mozambique, the SANY SCC7500 remains central to an operation in which restricted space is a defining consideration. The project illustrates an important principle of heavy lifting: having the required lifting capacity is only part of the solution.
Understanding the site, working within its limitations and planning every stage of the operation are equally important.
For Marlboro Crane Hire, the project provides an opportunity to demonstrate its involvement in specialised lifting operations beyond South Africa’s borders, working alongside Crane & Hoist to address the practical challenges of a demanding industrial project.
