Vanguard has completed the turnkey installation and commissioning of a Yadon tandem press line for VSL Manufacturing in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

This project, which will support local ISUZU vehicle production, demonstrates Vanguard’s integrated heavy lift, transport, and mechanical installation capabilities across the full project lifecycle. Vanguard’s scope of work included project cargo shipping of equipment from China to the Port of Port Elizabeth, port handling services, specialised overland transportation to site, full mechanical installation, commissioning, and automation support in collaboration with the OEM, Yadon.

Site conditions presented additional complexity, with construction activities ongoing and only temporary power supply available. To maintain the installation schedule, Vanguard optimised the use of specific in-house heavy lift equipment, enabling the critical installation activities to continue independently of overhead cranes and hydraulic gantry systems.

In total, four presses and six robots, complete with sound enclosures, were shipped, transported, and installed. Each component required precise planning and execution using Vanguard’s advanced lifting and handling systems, including the installation of a 200ton crown.

“This project underscores the breadth of Vanguard’s integrated service offering. Completing the installation of a fully automated press line under constrained site conditions and within tight timeframes highlights the capability and commitment of our team. By supporting VSL Manufacturing and the broader ISUZU production ecosystem, Vanguard reaffirms its position as a leading provider of turnkey heavy lift, transport, and installation solutions across Africa’s automotive and industrial sectors,” commented Marius Tembo, Project Engineer, Vanguard.

Installation commenced on 5 May 2025 and achieved mechanical completion and commissioning by 11 July 2025, marking a notable turnaround for a project of this scale and complexity. Vanguard extends its appreciation to VSL Manufacturing for their trust and partnership in the successful delivery of this project.
